The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
