Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.
